Serene calm beauty. De Lindenhof Hotel in Girthoorn

This place is so unassuming. On a village road with houses around. Then you enter and you notice the art. Funky quirky bold, then your eye catches a selection of colourful wooden ducks, hand made by a local artist, then you notice the grand piano with a collection of drinks artfully displayed then you see through the doors a terrace and flowers. It’s is just a host of visual delights that kee[ coming at you in a subtle way.

I loved the feel of this place, beautiful calm understated stylish luxury that is warm and welcoming. There’s nothing fussy or pretentious here but they eye for detail is superb.

Our junior suite was stylish simple and very comfortable. We didn’t know whether to just chill there after a long hot drive or whether to take the hotel boat for a private tour on the canals.

We decided of course on the boat tour captained by one of e young trainee chefs. We had asked for chilled water and nibbles which were so delecious and beautifully prepared. The slow meandering on the canals past houses and farms in the village of Giethoorn, known as the Venice of the North. It’s achingly pretty and on a gorgeous sunny day cruising gently on the tiny canals was pure magic.

The Lindenhof Restaurant and Hotel is run by 2 star Michelin star Chef Martin Kruithof and his wife Marjan de Jonge. It has 4 senior suites and 2 junior ones all beautifully done. Everything here is created for enjoy, ent and relaxation with guests encouraged to just simply enjoy doing what they want either wandering around the gardens or sitting in the many different areas just lazing about with drinks. It’s a place to relax with a great atmosphere of professional  service that is casual but perfect. Nothing sloppy here.

I found  it one of those rare places where there is perfection with ease. You can wander into the kitchen meet the staff ask questions.

We had only come for the night to eat at the De Lindenhof Resaturant as we hear so much about Martin Kruithof innovative but classic techniques. You can read about it on my post. We both wish we had stayed longer as it’s a perfect place. The area is very popular with tourist as it is lovely with a lot to do if you like walking boating and camping.

We were sad to leave the next morning but OMG what a breakfast. I was expecting the usual cold cuts eggs etc but oh no. Martin re-interprets the usual to make it an experience .

Fruit with frothy yogurt mini croissants quail eggs sausages all coming at you at different times each more scrumptious than expected. Cold hot textures. We were stuffed. I absolutely loved the do not with Apple and calvados it was just perfect. The whole philosophy and ethics here is enjoyment fresh food from the gardens seasonal products and a big huge welcome.
