I fell in love with Torel Palace when we f first visited three years ago. At the time there was only the one building, the old Torel palace with a few rooms and a sensational view of Lisbon. We had reserved a royal suite Don Amelia which is still very much one of our favourite room with four large windows overlooking the city of Lisbon and an old lemon tree in the garden. It was January not very inspiring weather but the location was just so stunning and the Palace had this inviting feel with perfumed candles, umbrellas for the rain, blankets dotted around. On this visit we even had a cat!
In the last few years owners Barbara and Jaoa have extended and bought the buildings next door which is stunning with premier view rooms overlooking the city. This is the hub of the hotel with the reception, breakfast room and indoor bar here. In the summer the breakfast dining area spills out onto the large terrace outside. It is just so so beautiful.
I love the breakfasts here. Generally we tend to skip breakfasts at the hotel and just wander about but the buffet is very stylishly displayed with home made cakes, fresh fruit and fresh juices with eggs made to order. I love their smoked salmon which is displayed in jars and served with chopped oregano and tomatoes. Or at least that how I put it together!
The whole property is cosy but expansive. Its very intimate but not small. A private road leads you to the Old Palace and to the side is the newer building and in between is a lower terrace with the pool a raised deck and bar and in the middle a super relaxing area with sofas and chairs. All overlooking the city .
Because this place is so relaxed you can just go get your drinks at the bar and go to your room wander about the property. Whatever time you arrive you are always greeted with a welcome drink In the summer and frankly the weather is Lisbon is most of the yea sunny and fairly warm, they have lots of outside areas from the raised bar to the pool to the terrace. You can have light bites to eat overlooking to what in my opinion is of the best views in Lisbon.
I have never tried the gourmet restaurant which is in the cave downstairs but I have eaten good prepared by their chef in the outside patio and it was delicious. This is the kind of place where everyone will try to accommodate your needs. Its stylish more than grand lux but everything works. The beds are super comfortable and the rooms chic with i pod stands coffee machines and a fridge Do do try for a room with a city view as its truly magical.
We always ask to be picked up at the airport as we are impatient to get into town which 15 minutes away but Torel also have also a shuttle service. We generally arrive fairly late and as we love Fado music we dash off for dinner and music. Torel staff are really good at reserving and arranging everything .
Everyone here is super friendly but key professional. The whole layout is just so conducive to chilling out with a pool, great outdoor bar area with comfy sofas. The whole space is intimate comfortably luxurious and it really is like having the comforts of your home with all the services provided.
